Every step in the Red Bull can’s lifecycle has a carbon footprint. All emissions resulting from production of the can and beverage, and their transport and cooling, are tallied up. The resulting value is what’s commonly known as the carbon footprint. Red Bull is working hard to shrink its carbon footprint, now and in the future, via a series of energy and resource-saving measures.
LESS ENERGY AND FEWER RAW MATERIALS
Wall-to-wall production is just one of the ways in which Red Bull reduces its environmental impact. This kind of production dramatically shortens transport distances, resulting in lower CO2 emissions, in addition to other benefits. Increasing the can recycling rate not only cuts down on Red Bull’s usage of precious virgin raw materials, but saves on the energy needed to process these. Reduction of the can’s weight has also made a difference: the less aluminium goes into cans in the first place, the smaller the carbon footprint.
USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES TO LESSEN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Whether through increasing implementation of wall-to-wall production or optimising of its supply chain, Red Bull sets itself ambitious targets to further minimise its environmental impact and energy use. For example, the share of cans being transported by rail and sea is steadily increasing, with an aim to replacing road transport, whenever possible. What’s more, the use of ecologically efficient refrigerators and cooling agents is a significant means to cut down on greenhouse gases. 180,000 ECO coolers are already in use by Red Bull and all coolers purchased in the future will be ECO coolers, except in the few, rare cases where this is not yet possible, due to 3rd party limitations beyond our control.
